Ergocert Hellas successfully completed the inspections of two onshore liquefied natural gas (LNG) gasification facilities in the cities of Patras and Ioannina, within the framework of the LNG gasification station procurement and construction projects.
The projects concerned the assessment of the compliance of the facilities with the current regulatory framework, in order to ensure their safe and reliable operation, prior to their integration into the distribution network and are of key importance for expanding access to natural gas for Western and Northwestern Greece.
What are LNG gasification stations and why are they important
LNG regasification stations allow the transport and storage of natural gas in liquefied form and its conversion back into a gaseous phase for distribution into the local distribution network. This technology offers flexibility and energy autonomy, especially in cities and regions located far from the main transmission pipelines.
For the cities of Patras and Ioannina, LNG gasification stations create the conditions for a reliable supply of natural gas to homes, businesses and industrial facilities.
The role of an indepependent inspection body
Ergocert Hellas, as an independent and specialized inspection body, undertook the overall assessment of the facilities, covering all stages from the review of the study and the technical file, to the on-site inspection and monitoring of the required checks and tests.
In general, within the framework of the implementation of the construction works, the following checks were carried out:
- Review of technical file & design studies
- Monitoring equipment manufacturing and installation
- WPS/PQR/WQTC welding inspections and NDT (visual, ultrasonic, magnetic particles, dye penetrant)
- Inspection of hydraulic and pneumatic tests (tightness, strength)
- Inspection of electromechanical equipment, valves, and RMS station
- Inspection of functional tests and trial operation
- Review of material and equipment certificates, operating and maintenance manuals
Patras LNG Station: Strengthening the energy infrastructure of Western Greece
The LNG facility in Patras, located in the Patras Industrial Area, is a critical link in the supply of natural gas to the wider region. The inspection confirmed that the facility has been implemented in accordance with the approved studies and applicable regulatory requirements, contributing to the creation of a modern and safe energy infrastructure for the region.
Ioannina LNG Station: Strategic project for Northwestern Greece
Accordingly, the LNG station in Ioannina, located in the Industrial Area of Ioannina, plays a decisive role in the expansion of natural gas in a geographically demanding area. The possibility of supplying via LNG offers energy autonomy, flexibility and increased security of supply for the local community and economic activity.
The completion of the inspection by Ergocert ensures that the facility is ready to support the gradual development of the natural gas distribution network in Epirus, with high levels of safety and reliability.
Contributing to the transition to a modern energy landscape
The LNG station projects in Patras and Ioannina are part of a broader strategy to diversify energy sources and transition to cleaner forms of fuel.
Ergocert Hellas, with its technical competence and experience in the energy infrastructure sector, continues to contribute substantially to the implementation of projects of strategic importance for the country, supporting the safe development and operation of modern natural gas facilities throughout Greece.
