The inspection and certification of an elevator is a mandatory procedure, regardless of its purpose and type of use (in residences, commercial buildings, public spaces, etc.) and is defined in accordance with European and Greek legislative requirements.
The requirements of European legislation apply to new elevators, i.e., elevators that are to be put into legal use for the first time, while the requirements of national legislation apply to existing elevators.
Lift Certification and Lift Maintenance
The certification of an elevator should not be confused with maintenance. Maintenance refers to regular, preventive work carried out by maintenance companies at intervals of up to 45 days for use in residential buildings.
Certification is a process undertaken by an Accredited Inspection Body and involves checking and confirming compliance with safety standards and legal requirements. The certification of an elevator includes a complete technical inspection of the elevator systems, as well as many other functional safety tests.
Initial Lift Inspection - CE Marking
The initial inspection of a lift is the conformity assessment inspection for CE marking in every new lift in accordance with the requirements of European Directive 2014/33/EU.
- The Initial lift inspection is mandatory
- The inspection is carried out by Notified Bodies, such as Ergocert Hellas S.A.
- The initial inspection request in an obligation of the installer or owner of the lift
Periodic Lift Inspection
Periodic lift inspection is the inspection of an existing lift that is already in use and serves the needs of lifting and transporting people and loads. Periodic lift inspection is mandatory under the provisions of national legislation (FEK 2604/B/2008).
Existing elevators must be inspected periodically at specific intervals of 1 to 6 years, depending on their use (residential, business, hotel, public space for the general public) of the building in which they are located.
