
Periodic Inspection

- Air compressors – Tanks – Pressurized assemblies
Air compressors, Ammonia Tanks, other Pressure Vessels, Pressurized Assemblies, are inspected periodically in accordance with the provisions of Ministerial Decision 14165/F17/4373/19 (Government Gazette 673/B/93). Every owner is obligated to conduct periodic inspections, which are necessary for the safe operation of pressure vessels and the prevention of employee accidents.
- LPG Tanks
All LPG tanks must be checked periodically under the responsibility of their owner, at regular intervals and specifically every five years from the date of manufacture. The periodic inspection is conducted in accordance with Government Gazette 477/Β/01-07-1993 for LPG tanks installed in large industrial, small industrial, and professional facilities, and in accordance with Government Gazette 1257/Β/03-09-2003 for LPG tanks installed in residential buildings. Inspections of LPG tanks fall under two categories:
- A) Inspection every five years from the date of manufacture of the tank, which includes at least an external inspection of the condition of the tank and checking the operation of its safety valves. Additionally, a thickness measurement of the tank’s plates may be conducted using a specialized ultrasound device.
- B) Inspection every ten years from the date of manufacture of the tank, which includes all the checks of the five-year inspection, plus a full internal inspection and/or hydraulic test.
The absence of a valid certificate of periodic inspection is punishable by a fine from State agencies and may incur criminal penalties or even the withdrawal of the business’s operating license.
- Steam boilers – Steam Generators
The acceptance testing (initial inspection) and the periodic inspection of steam boilers – steam generators are implemented in accordance with J.M.D. 10735/651 (Government Gazette 2656/B/2012), which stipulates the testing activities and the time intervals for re-inspections, which range from one (1) to eight (8) years depending on the category and the year of manufacture.
Acceptance of steam boilers – steam generators
According to Government Gazette 2656/Β/28-09-2012, for the initial commissioning and legal use of a steam boiler, the issuing of an acceptance certificate is required from a Recognized and Accredited Inspection Body, such as ERGOCERT HELLAS SA.
Periodic inspection of steam boilers – steam generators
According to Government Gazette 2656/Β/28-09-2012, the periodic re-inspection of steam boilers – steam generators is conducted by a Recognized and Accredited Inspection Body such as ERGOCERT HELLAS SA under the responsibility of the owner of the equipment, and it is normally conducted periodically as required or exceptionally in cases of extensive repairs/modifications or substitution of the boiler.
The absence of an acceptance certificate or a valid certificate of periodic inspection is punishable by a fine from State agencies and may incur criminal penalties or even the withdrawal of the business’s operating license.
